Is our life a story? And if so, can we rewrite it? In Drama Girl , director Vincent Boy Kars lets a young woman re-enact a number of crucial scenes from her recent past. Perhaps, thinks Kars, it can help her handle certain events. In the meantime, it also brings him something: a film that investigates how fiction and documentary can borrow from each other. Leyla in his twenties indulges in the film experiment. Kars surrounds her with actors: Pierre Bokma plays her father, Elsie de Brauw her mother, Jonas Smulders is her boyfriend. As she raises the past with them, she discusses with the filmmaker what it does to her.
